Aside from today being an exciting play on words for Star Wars fans, May 4th is also renewal day! Renewal day is intended to bring attention to the aspects of life that have become old and forgotten, a lost friendship or maybe even your insurance policy. Renewals are a great time to review your policy personally and possibly with your agent if you want to make sure your coverage is adequate for your ever changing needs.
Throughout the policy term things like purchasing a new car or adding coverage back on a stored boat are obvious changes you call your agent for, but what about those small changes? For instance, home repairs like updating your roof or remodeling a kitchen can be changes you might want to consider when reviewing your policy renewal. A new roof can lower the chances of a claim due to a weather related loss and some carriers offer discounts for newer roofs because of that lower loss exposure. Another example would be if you purchased a home that was a fixer upper, the coverage required to replace that home would reflect the state of the home at the time you added it to your policy; after a few remodel projects the value of your home increases. Wouldn’t it then make sense that the cost to rebuild your home would also increase? Even if your insurance isn’t up for renewal at this time, remember to review your policy when it is and when that time comes, May the Fourth be with you!
